Union Rescue Mission Receives $3,552.00 in Overdose Reversal Medication Naloxone from the Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership

February 10, 2025

Little Rock, AR – Union Rescue Mission, a nonprofit organization in Little Rock, AR announced on Monday that they have been awarded over $3,552.00 worth of naloxone from the Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership. Naloxone, or (NARCAN®), is a low-risk medication used to reverse opioid overdoses.

Over the next year, the Union Rescue Mission will distribute over 96 free kits of naloxone across Pulaski County. They will provide naloxone to their staff, clients, clients’ families, volunteers, and donors. Each recipient will receive training on safe administration and tools to report naloxone saves.

“We are excited at Union Rescue Mission to be recipients of the Opioid Settlement Dollars for the ARORP Naloxone HERO Project. We have seen firsthand that NARCAN saves lives for those that have experienced an opioid overdose. We have had success with individuals who were given a second chance at life as a result of NARCAN and we have seen them go on to be successful after completing our program. Now, we have the opportunity to train others in the use of NARCAN, wishing that it never had to be used, but knowing how vital it is when necessary.”- Derek Jones, Executive Director of Union Rescue Mission

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 107,622 Americans died of drug overdoses in 2021. Any community members who want to carry naloxone to save someone from an overdose can receive free doses through this program.

“The awarding of these Opioid Settlement Dollars gives us the opportunity to give back to our community by standing in the gap with those suffering from Opioid Use Disorder to save lives. We are so thankful for Mayor Scott and Judge Hyde for approving this which gave us this opportunity.” -Whitney Lee, Director of Marketing & Development
