Governor of Arkansas Elects New Drug Director

[February 17, 2023] At the Arkansas State Capitol, Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced the state’s new drug director, Thomas Fisher. A former official with the Department of Justice and the Drug Enforcement Administration, Fisher has been fighting against the threat of illicit substances for over two decades. He serves as the Chief Operating Officer for Arkansas Redistributors, LLC, to assist in the disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous pharmaceuticals in Arkansas.

The Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership (ARORP) is currently led by Kirk Lane, former Drug Director of Arkansas. Lane and ARORP are looking forward to standing alongside Director Fisher in protecting Arkansas families who are affected by substance misuse.

Fisher notes an urgency in the role. “I had the opportunity to work with state and local officers, investigators and public health officials to find ways to make communities safer,” Fisher said. “Governor, as your Drug Director, I can only describe the manner in which we’re about to go in as urgent.”

Fisher will succeed Boyce Hamlet, who was appointed to the position last August, 2022.
