Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership expands Naloxone Hero Program to first responders and schools
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Feb. 28, 2025) — The Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership (ARORP)
announces today that, effective March 1, 2025, the Naloxone Hero Program will expand to
include city and county first responder agencies, as well as school systems that want to provide
naloxone to help prevent overdoses.
Since the fall of 2022, ARORP has provided 86,496 doses of naloxone to community partners
through the Naloxone Hero Program with an additional 23,000 doses earmarked for distribution.
Naloxone is an opioid antagonist that allows individuals to breathe during an opioid overdose
and has been responsible for more than 2,000 documented saves since 2015.
“This simple, lifesaving tool is a game-changer at a time when so many opioid substances, both
illicit and prescription, can cause someone to stop breathing,
” said Kirk Lane, director of
ARORP.
“We are proud of our first responders and schools that have been involved in this effort
already, as well as the many others who will be equipped in the future to be a hero in a time of
need.
”
First responders eligible under the expanded program include law enforcement agencies,
emergency medical agencies and fire departments serving any Arkansas city or county.
Awardees will receive training resources and reporting instructions.
Interested agencies and organizations can apply through ARORP’s website at ARORP.org by
following the Naloxone Hero Project prompts. Additional information is also available through
ARORP’s free mobile app, ReviveAR.
