Arkansas Drug Take Back Day returns on October 26
Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership encourages statewide participation
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Oct. 8, 2024) — The Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership (ARORP) encourages Arkansans to participate in Arkansas Drug Take Back Day Saturday, Oct. 26. To locate a collection site, download the ReviveAR app, which provides up-to-date information about Arkansas Drug Take Back and offers a search function that pinpoints drop boxes by name or zip code.
Arkansas Drug Take Back Day provides a safe, convenient and responsible way for people to dispose of unused or unwanted medication. Arkansas is among the top 10 states in the U.S. for the weight of drugs collected during these events, underscoring the state’s dedication to limiting prescription drug misuse. Arkansans can access a wealth of educational resources through Arkansas Drug Take Back’s website and ARORP’s ReviveAR app, empowering communities with information about safe disposal practices and the dangers of opioid misuse.
“Prescription opioids are a major driver of the opioid crisis, and it’s our responsibility as a community to dispose of drugs when they’re no longer needed,” said Kirk Lane, director for the Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership. “By participating in Arkansas Drug Take Back Day, we can all ensure safer communities, while simultaneously supporting statewide efforts to combat drug misuse and promote public health.”
In spring 2024, Arkansans disposed of 25,405 pounds of medication, contributing to the safe destruction of 303,077 tons of medication since 2010. On Oct. 26, over 200 law enforcement agencies will work together to collect unused medication at more than 300 permanent drop boxes across the state.
